Remarkable for "Regular" People

Most expositional commentaries are written with a specialized audience in mind -- like pastors, divinity students, and other "professional" religious people. Boice's commentary on Sermon on the Mount, though, is delightfully accessible. Anyone can enjoy it -- even "regular" people (i.e., without religious credentials). As a lay person, I found the book approachable, understandable, and delightfully engaging. It was also a great read -- easy to follow, and even entertaining. (Boice's many references to secular and personal experience were illuminating, refreshing, and effective.) I learned a lot about this important section of the Bible, and enjoyed every insight. Highly recommended -- for a very broad audience.

A commentary you can read...

I have often found commentaries to be long & dry. James Montgomery Boice fills the pages with Bible based truth and insights that are so easy to take away with you. The truths are practical and he makes it clear how they can be applied. I have read a number of his commentaries and look forward to reading others.

Even though this book was written over 40 years ago ...

Even though this book was written over 40 years ago it is still relevant today. I am using it more as an addition to my regular devotion studies and just read a chapter at a time. I have found it to be more helpful that way. The book breaks down the Sermon on the Mount a few verses at a time. I am sure that once I am done reading this book I will keep it close by and use it as a reference book in the years to come.
