Making Great Music with the "Bare Necessities"

This book is not only educational for keyboard players, it is a great tool for all types of musicians!

I am a Tuba, Trombone, and hacker type piano player, and play Tuba and Trombone professionaly in Traditional Jazz Bands, as well as recrerationally in Community Bands, and a local University Symphony Orchestra. I use the book and it's charts to read Chord Spellings, create different types of Bass Lines for my Tuba, use the tables to show all the current and past symbols used for jazz chords, and as a quick resource for major and minor chord spellings. I use the book in conjunction with Ann Collins other book "How to Read a Fake Book" to learn how to create accompaniment for songs given in "Fake Book" style with the melody in treble clef, and the guitar chord symbols above the notes where the changes take place. This is how our Dixieland and Trad Jazz music is usually given to us, if there is music at all!

The book was less than 10 bucks, and if you follow it for fake book style piano playing, and dilligently do the exercises, you will be amazed how many songs you can learn in a short amout of time. It covers playing in all keys major and minor, all types of chords, and hand positioning for the chords.

About the Author
Victor Katz is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of the District of Columbia. He has long been interested in the history of mathematics and its use in teaching. His textbook: "A History of Mathematics: An Introduction" was published in 1993, with a second edition in 1998 and a shorter version to appear in 2004. He has written numerous articles and given many presentations dealing with the history of mathematics and its use in teaching.

Robin Wilson is currently Senior Lecturer in Mathematics at the Open University, U.K., and Fellow in Mathematics at Keble College, Oxford University. He has written and edited about 25 books, in topics ranging from graph theory and combinatorics, via philately and the Gilbert & Sullivan operas, to the history of mathematics puns.

Marlow Anderson is a professor of mathematics at The Colorado College, in Colorado Springs; he has been a member of the mathematics department there since 1982. He studied partially ordered algebra at the University of Kansas and received his Ph.D. in 1978. He has written over 20 research papers. In addition, he is co-author of a book on lattice-ordered groups, and also an undergraduate textbook on abstract algebra.

Great book full of ideas

The coverage is diversified, and yet coherent. Many other similar titled books are like scramble of photos sewing bits and pieces together; this one doesn't. The 55 designers' works are well presented with good selection of high quality photos. The book design is also top-notch. It is a great book full of ideas.

The Club of Rome (COR) is the chief “think tank” for the New World Order that was unknown in America until exposed by Dr. Coleman in 1969 for the very first time and published under the same title in 1970.

Bush.

The COR was responsible for a major population study the purpose of which was related to population control, completed in1968. Another prominent COR member, Aurelio Peccei advocated carrying out the suggestion of Bertrand Russell, the introduction of a plague similar to the Black Plague that would wipe out unwanted people and bring about a drastic reduction in population in countries like South America and Africa. Nuclear power stations generating the cheapest source of electric power known to the world were bitterly opposed by the COR from their very inception, to protect the oil industry, many of whose top executives belong to the COR and the Illuminati.

He has gone into great detail about the connection between the Club and NATO, His other books are also well researched and cited. This large 264-page hardcover is packed with development art for Fantastic Beasts. There are several chapters but the artworks are roughly grouped into designs for environment, creatures, characters at The Blind Pig bar and the Obscurus. What's missing from this book are designs relating to the human characters. So if you're looking for human characters, check out the making-of book.

All the artworks in this book are computer generated, so there's a 3D-feel to all the concept art, especially the architecture or interior renders and paint-overs. Close to 100 pages are devoted to locations, 1920s New York streets, Macusa's building, Newt's shed and accompanying world. The environment art are really detailed. You can see all the windows in the skyscrapers, the brickwork, fire-escape stairs by side of buildings and iconic landmarks. Just like the film, there's a dark and moody atmosphere to all the locations.

Highlight of the book would probably be the creature designs. There are numerous discarded concepts for each creature, and all the artworks look great. If you tell me they are for Magic the Gathering I would believe you.

Then there are the 3D renders of the shady characters in The Blind Pig. The last few pages are concept art for the Obscurus. I'm not a big fan of the black smoke concept though.

There are lots to read about the designs and how they relate to the film, the plot and the characters. Fans of the film should find the information interesting.

Overall, it's a wonderful companion to the film.

A beautiful collection of sketches and computer animations of the creatures, characters and wizarding and non-maj communities in Fantastic Beasts. This book is ideal for those creative souls interested in visual development and production design. The book is sectioned into six chapters: New York, MACUSA, Newt's Case, The Fantastic Beasts, The Blind Pig, and The Obscurus. The book contains three postcards as well as a four page spread of character's wands.

About the Author
Born at the turn of the century, W. E. Butler studied in India among Hindu spiritual teachers and with the well-known mystic Annie Besant. In England, he worked closely with Dion Fortune in the Society of the Inner Light. Butler is the author of numerous works, including How to Read the Aura and Practice Psychometry, Telepathy, and Clairvoyance. At Butler's request, Lords of Light was edited from his Ibis Fraternity lectures by his longtime student and friend, M.A. Geikie.

True Initiation in the Western Mysteries

Excellent! This is one of the best, if not THE best, book on the Western Mysteries that I have ever read ( and believe me I have read a LOT in 30+ years) Mr. Butler's style of writing is so easy to understand and follow. The author is, in my opinion, one of the best teachers in the Mysteries that I know of. It is a great lose that he has passed on so soon. The chapters on "The Western Tradition - The Withdrawn Order - Woven Paces and Waving Hands" or very informative and enlightening. There are five chapters on "Training the Personality" which are priceless! Everyone who is searching to "Know Thyself" should read and study this over and over again. Also, there is a "Questions and Answers" at the end of each chapter which helps to clarify some of the points made in the lectures. This is a wonderful book and I would recommend it to all.

A True Classic

I think this is one of my all time favorite books on the Western Mystery Tradition. Mr. Butler's unassuming tone and incredible wealth of knowledge make this an important stepping stone in understanding the mysterious. As a person you will fall in love with his demeanor; as a teacher you will be in awe of his skills. This is one you won't be disappointed with.

I have to agree with the other reviewer. This is indeed a true classic and worth keeping in your library. The tone of these Lectures which he gave at the Ibis Fraternity in Devon England just 6 months before he left this world, is unasuming and self deprecating. There is so much wisdom in his words that it is precious worth reading and reading again.This is definitely a must buy
