Best book on tortoises I have come across...so far.

This is the most detailed and carefully written book on tortoises I have come across so far. The author seems to be very knowledgeable without being dogmatic. After reading it I now know that there is not ONE single way of being a responsible tortoise owner. The author gives the pros and cons on almost every issue without telling the reader how she/he has to handle their tortoises. That is great since it allows for modifications according to one's individual situation without having the feeling of doing something wrong. Other books usually tell either only what is right or what is wrong without giving the alternative. This author gives examples and according to them one can judge for oneself whether this is the best, better, worse or worst way to house, to feed, to care for one's particular tortoise.
What this book cannot provide, of course, is an in-depth treatise of every single species. That is why it is still merely an overview. For details and specific answers to my questions I needed to consult my vet.

Good book, but....

I wanted a book that had lots of info on the desert tortoise. In quickly reviewing this one, I thought I had found it. Unfortunately after buying it it had very little info specifically on the desert tortoise. If you're interested in a book on aquatic and/or Mediterranean turtle/tortoise, this is a great book.

This book has cleared up so many misconception I had about bitcoins

A few years ago I tried to learn what I could about bitcoins using Google searches. The more I read online about bitcoins at the time the more confusing the subject got for me. It was also around this same time that Apple removed all Bitcoin Wallet apps from their app store. Between the confusing information I was finding online, Apple dropping all Bitcoin Wallet apps (Bitcoin wallet apps have since returned to the app store) and some negative stores about bitcoin in the news at the time I decided Bitcoin was not something I wanted to put anymore time into let alone my hard earned cash.

Fast forward a few years and I decide to do some more research on bitcoins. Being a big Amazon Prime fan now and a big fan of the “for Dummies” books I go to Amazon to see what I can find. Much to my surprise I find the book “Bitcoin For Dummies 1st Edition” and it was just recently published! I download the free sample and minutes later I purchase the kindle version of the book.

What a eye opener Bitcoin For Dummies has been for me. If you are like me and feel that you don’t really have a good understanding about how bitcoins work or even what they are then I highly recommend you read this book from cover to cover. The book does a excellent job of touching on all things bitcoin. I thought at first this book maybe just one sided and only put a positive spin on bitcoins, but it does not. The book talks about the good and the bad. It talks about bitcoins history along with how things have changed and how to currently protect your bitcoins.

After reading this book from cover to cover I feel that I have a really good and solid understand of just what bitcoins are and how they work. Well reading the book I opened up a couple Bitcoin Wallet accounts (CoinBase & blockchain) along with ordering a KeepKey hard wallet. Along with my new found knowledge of bitcoins I have had the confidence to purchase my first bitcoins!

This book has cleared up so many misconception I had about bitcoins and I can’t say enough good things about it, highly recommend!

"Wild Times" Is A Winner!

Brian Garfield has a gift for placing himself in whatever period of the Old West that he wishes and speaking out about that time period through his characters, which are expertly crafted. The main character, Hugh Cardiff, is supposed to be based on the life of one of Buffalo Bill's main Wild West Show competitors, an expert marksman named Doc Carver. While some of Hugh's exploits seem a bit larger than life (that's the point of the book, isn't it?) most of them are entirely believable, given the rugged real people who lived during the Old West. It's an excellent book to read on a rainy Saturday afternoon with nothing else to do; I guarantee that you won't put it down once you start reading, and Garfield can really spin a yarn. If you like the late, great Louis L'Amour's style of writing, you will really enjoy this book. You'll also get to meet unforgettable characters such as Caleb Rice, Ibran the Apache, Al Seiber, and Libby Tyree.

"Wild Times" was made into a miniseries in about 1980 with Sam Elliott in the title role. If you are a fan of his work, please try to find the film (only on VHS, as far as I know), and watch it. The richness of Garfield's literary characters springs effortlessly on the screen. Bruce Boxleitner is excellent as Vern Tyree, although Garfield's literary character in the book is much more venomous and even psychotic. The written characters of John Singleton Tyree and Harry Dreier leap from the pages of the book unto the screen via Leif Ericson and Cameron Mitchell (last roles for both?) who worked together on The High Chaparral Western TV series as John and Buck Cannon. Ben Johnson also has a nice role in the film as one of Hugh Cardiff's admirers and principal mentors, Doc Bogardus. However, the literary Bogardus created by Mr. Garfield is even more interesting than Mr. Johnson's portrayal, which is stellar all by itself.

Please forgive the digression about the film, but I thought it was necessary, because if you have both the book and the film, you can see just how lifelike Garfield's characters can be. As good as the film is, the book is definitely better. Buy it; it's a gem!

An enjoyable tour of the Wild West - its rise and fall

This book coveres the life and times of fictional Hugh Cardiff and man whose many experience mirror the facts and ledgends of the old west. I Loved when it first cam out and I regret never having seen the Mini-series, I hope is availible for rent someday.
